In "Beyond Definition: Central Concepts for Understanding Literacy", Judy Kalman introduces a definition of literacy, ‘‘Literacy is understood as the theoretical and practical knowledge that allow for sufficient mastery of reading and arithmetic and their use for one’s further development.’’ My parents always think that reading many books is more important than getting good grades, which also becomes my belief. Since I was young, my parents, my teachers, and my friends affected me to fall in love with reading. Here are the stories of how I became literate in reading under their influence.
